Changing strings on your guitar can be fairly straight forward once you’ve done it a few times. Changing them regularly will help maintain a good sound and keep them feeling clean and useable.
I change my strings every month or so because I play so much due to the nature of my job as a guitar teacher in Aberdeen. I suggest waiting no longer than 6 months to change your guitar strings. If you keep on top of the guitar maintenance, then you will find your guitar lessons easier and your playing will be much better.

You only need a pair of wire cutters, string winder (if you want to restring it quicker) and a tuner. You may want to take the opportunity to clean your guitar whilst the strings are off. In this case having a guitar specific cleaner/polish and micro fibre cloth would be helpful too.
I teach my students within their guitar lessons to restring their guitars easily and successfully. I like to take all of the strings off at once but this is personal preference. You may prefer to do one string at a time to begin with.
Changing your strings regularly will not necessarily strings breaking but it will make it less likely to happen. It’s important to give your guitar regular MOT and by changing the strings at set intervals you’ll notice a difference in your guitar lessons and the sound your guitar makes. It’s worth doing.
If you need help on restringing your guitar just get in touch. For reference I recommend my students get Elixir strings (I’m not sponsored). I really like the tone and longevity of Elixir strings. I use them on all of my guitars (acoustic, electric and bass). Try them out… I promise you won’t be disappointed!
